A new voice for the profession
BSDHT to launch Dental Health Matters podcast.
The British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy (BSDHT) is launching on 20 January 2026, Dental Health Matters, a new podcast created to support, inform and connect dental hygienists and dental therapists across the UK. The podcast will be hosted by BSDHT President, Rhiannon Jones, with guest hosts and contributors joining throughout the series.
Dental Health Matters will be available in both video and audio format on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Amazon Music and YouTube, ensuring easy access at home, between appointments or on the commute.
Commenting on the launch, Rhiannon said: “Our profession thrives on shared learning, connection and support. This podcast creates a space for open, practical and uplifting conversations that reflect real life in practice. I am excited to share stories, ideas and insights that inspire confidence and pride in the amazing work dental hygienists and dental therapists do every day.”
What listeners can expect
The opening episode will feature Dr Mahrukh Khwaja, founder of Mind Ninja, who will explore practical, evidence-informed approaches to prioritising self-care and supporting emotional resilience in the dental profession. From there, the series moves into conversations that explore the realities of life in practice, combining personal reflection with practical, clinically relevant discussion.
The first three episodes will be released together on 20th January. Alongside Dr Khwaja’s opening episode, listeners can look forward to two featured conversations:
- Rhiannon Jones and BSDHT President Elect Simone Ruzario will reflect on the past year and look ahead to 2026 in conversation with James Cooke, Editor of The Probe
- Professor Mike Lewis and Jocelyn Harding will lead a conversation on early detection of mouth cancer and clear, confident patient communication.
Corporate Friends supporting the launch
The BSDHT is proud to launch Dental Health Matters in collaboration with three Corporate Friends: EMS, Oral-B and TePe. Their involvement reflects a shared commitment to improving oral health outcomes through education, prevention and empowered practice, and enables the podcast to remain freely accessible to the profession.
Representing TePe, Miranda Pascucci, Head of Clinical Education, shared how aligned the partnership feels: “We at TePe have partnered with BSDHT to reinforce our shared commitment to advancing education and promoting better oral health. This collaboration gives us the opportunity to amplify the voices of dental hygienists and therapists, ensuring that prevention and education remain at the heart of the profession.”
From Oral-B, Michaela ONeill, Senior Professional & Scientific Relations Manager, reflected on the importance of supporting the launch: “We’re delighted to partner with BSDHT for the launch of Dental Health Matters. At Oral-B, we believe in empowering individuals with knowledge and tools for optimal oral health, and this podcast is a vital step in fostering community engagement and education.”

Together, these perspectives highlight the strength of collaborative, education-led initiatives that lift the voice and visibility of the profession.
A timely step forward for the profession
Podcasts continue to grow in importance for professional learning, particularly for clinicians managing intensive schedules. With episodes at around 30 minutes each, Dental Health Matters provides an accessible format that fits naturally into busy working days while still delivering depth and practical value.
The series supports ongoing development while strengthening the sense of belonging and shared purpose within the dental hygiene and therapy community. It aligns with the BSDHT’s mission to promote prevention, champion evidence-informed care and represent the interests and voice of the profession at national level.
How to listen and get involved
Dental Health Matters is designed to grow with the profession, reflecting the voices, challenges and aspirations of those working in practice every day. The BSDHT welcomes contributions from across the community and looks forward to the conversations, reflections and ideas that will emerge as the series develops.
