Practical minor oral surgery course

Combines a comprehensive online preparatory programme with a face-to-face, hands-on learning experience

The Faculty of Dentistry, RCSI has announced its Practical Minor Oral Surgery Course, delivered in a hybrid format and combining online preparation with hands-on surgical training using porcine mandibles.

The hands-on component will take place face-to-face on Saturday, 5 December at RCSI’s state-of-the-art academic and education building at 26 York Street, Dublin 2.

Participants attending the hands-on component will also receive access to a bespoke online preparatory programme, which can be completed at their own pace in advance of the course. Both components are included in the registration fee.

The course, sponsored by NSK, provides a practical and evidence-based approach to managing common minor oral surgery cases in general practice. Delegates will explore strategies for avoiding unnecessary interventions, recognising when referral is appropriate, and carrying out surgical procedures safely and effectively when treatment is indicated.

This hybrid course combines a comprehensive online preparatory programme with a face-to-face, hands-on learning experience led by senior teaching faculty from the Faculty of Dentistry, RCSI.

The practical component takes place in its state-of-the-art clinical laboratory facilities, where delegates will undertake hands-on surgical training using porcine mandibles to develop and refine key minor oral surgery skills in a realistic practical setting.

Delegates will have access to the online preparatory materials in advance, enabling them to maximise the benefit of the hands-on course.

The course presenters are Dr Andrew Bolas, Dr Harriet Byrne, Dr Kate Farrell, Professor Gerry Kearns, Professor John Marley and Dr Victoria Stewart.
