The biological basis for successful endodontic treatment

A limited enrolment masterclass hosted by the Faculty of Dentistry RCSI on 9 March will focus on the art of, and biological basis for, successful endodontic treatment.

The art of endodontics is the physical preparation and obturation of the root canal. The biological basis for treatment is concerned with the elimination of the bacterial substrate, i.e. pulp tissue, the destruction of bacterial biofilm and elimination of bacteria from the root canal and the prevention of reinfection in the future.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Reassess our access cavity preparations and enhance our ability to locate root canals
  2. Simplify techniques to negotiate and shape the root canal to full length
  3. Improve techniques and solutions to maximise the elimination of pulpal tissue and aid in the disruption of the biofilm and elimination of bacteria
  4. Enhance and safeguard the obturation of the root canal to prevent future bacterial invasion.

The course, led by Dr Pat Cleary, will consist of short presentations followed by round table demonstrations and discussions covering each of the topics above.

Spaces are limited so early booking is recommended.
