Cranmore opens its doors

Year-long restoration pays off in style for Belfast dental surgery

A new state-of-the-art dental practice, located just off the Lisburn Road in Belfast, has opened its doors promising concierge class dentistry in boutique luxury surroundings.

Spearheaded by clinical director David Nelson, Cranmore was officially opened at the end of January by the eminent cosmetic dentist Dr Christopher Orr. Previously situated on the Lisburn Road, David bought a three-storey period building on nearby Windsor Avenue in order to relocate and set about transforming the premises inside and out.

The restoration project took a year to complete due to the scale of the work, as business development manager Brenda Nelson explained: “It needed a new roof, new windows, and all the structural beams were replaced.”

David and Brenda were keen to retain many of the original features of the property such as the ornate cornising and a marble fireplace. The new six-surgery practice does, however, have some distinct modern touches such as a bespoke glass partition and door separating the reception and waiting areas, marble flooring as well as flat-screen televisions, iPod docking stations in the surgeries and Wi-Fi access throughout.

Cranmore also boasts a dedicated training facility – with room for 40 seated delegates and 20 for a hands-on session – that has video and audio links down to two surgeries, LCD television, HD projector and two wireless boardroom speakerphones for conferencing.

The new practice, which has a sister practice in Bangor, has also been approved as a clinical training centre for the University of Central Lancashire Institute of Postgraduate Dental Education Masters Programme in Implant Dentistry, with Dr Nelson as lead clinical supervisor and Dr Ken Nicholson as the academic lead for the course.

Cranmore accepts referrals for dental implants and also boasts an oral surgeon, endodontist, periodontist and paediatrics and special care dentist, all of whom are happy to accept referrals.

Finally, David has set up the Cranmore Academy to provide a continuing education programme for dentists in the form of eight study clubs throughout 2011.
