MFD Part 1 – online examination

The Faculty of Dentistry RCSI has announced the development of an online format of the MFD Part 1 examination, which will be held on Thursday, 27 August.

The new format has been developed to offer online solutions for assessments, meaning the examination can be completed from home.

The online MFD Part 1 consists of one three-hour paper. The online format will include:

  1. 375 True/False MCQs (keeping the same format from the written version, there are 75 stems with 5 parts each which are either true or false)
  2. 20 Single Best Answer questions (where a statement is presented and candidates select what they feel is the “best” or most appropriate answer.

Thursday 27 August will be the first opportunity to take the online format of the MFD Part 1. The examination fee is €750.

To access the online MFD Part 1 online exam, participants will require the following technology:

  • Internet connection (ideally a hardwired ethernet connection, or alternatively Wi-Fi that has a high Mpbs speed)
  • Desktop or laptop computer that has a minimum of 4Gb RAM and has a webcam
  • Windows 7+ or Mac 10.8+

Facing the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and conscious of its responsibilities to local and international candidates, as well as to the dental profession, the Faculty of Dentistry has also successfully delivered its first diet of the MFD Part 2 in a virtual/online setting.
